Preserve History

The Townsite Neighborhood

  • Streets and lots platted in 1894
  • Middle-class neighborhood has housed:
    • Several mayors
    • Rough Riders of the Spanish-American War
    • Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto
    • Teachers
    • City and council employees
    • Small business owners

An Alternative to Redevelopment

There’s a high rate of redevelopment in historic neighborhoods that:

  • Alters the character of the neighborhood with homes built in a different shape and scale
  • Decreases green space
  • Removes neighborhood feel
  • Increases traffic congestion

Promote Sustainability

“The greenest building is the one that’s already built.”
– Carl Elefante, architect

  • Preserving old houses preserves quality materials
  • Saves usable materials from the landfills
  • High-efficiency retrofitting and appliances lower energy use and pollution
  • TCLT stewardship ensures the houses will remain in good condition for years to come
